Post Fire Series: Building An Earthen Bench, Part II

Get grounded in the fundamentals of building an earthen bench at this three-part Earthen Bench Making Workshop series in collaboration with SoilWise— part of the ongoing Post Fire series at Arlington Garden and our Weekend Workshops series. Join us this Saturday 7/11 from 9am-12pm for the second of three free workshops on building an earthen bench at Arlington Garden. Part two will include the bench plastering process. We will mix and apply a smooth fine earthen plaster with natural weatherproofing to the bench form created in the first workshops.This workshop will prepare us for the third and final finishing workshop where we will create a mosaic and apply a finishing plaster. This workshop is a continuation of the series which started in Spring 2025 that was paused due to the temporary closure of the garden following the fire which destroyed the the onsite wood workshed and volunteer hub. Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle to drink from, and be on time for the workshop sessions. Be prepared to get dirty! The workshop series is free thanks to a grant from the California Community Foundation.
