The Arlington Garden Board of Directors is happy to announce the appointment of Andrew (AJ) Jewell as the organization’s new Executive Director.
Andrew began with Arlington Garden in 2019 as a volunteer and joined the staff in early 2020 as Communications and Volunteer Program Manager. His knowledgeable writing and thoughtful volunteer engagement have made him an integral part of the Arlington Garden team.
Andrew has a PhD in Philosophy and lectured at UCLA and Pomona before joining Arlington. An adventurous gardener from a young age, Andrew has grown many novel and native plants and has focused on propagating unusual mediterranean-climate geophytes for the last decade.
We are excited for this next chapter of Arlington Garden. We are inspired by Andrew’s commitment to cultivating a beautiful place of respite, stewarding the next generation of gardeners, and fostering care for both our urban and native ecosystems.
We hope you will find a moment to visit the garden and enjoy the mini-super bloom nurtured by staff and volunteers. From a vacant lot to a thriving mediterranean climate habitat garden, the living beauty of Arlington is a constant reminder of what we can accomplish together as a community.
This special place of inspiration, education and joy has been co-created through hard work, care and passion. Thousands of community leaders, volunteers, neighbors, visitors, donors and skilled staff have contributed to the garden over these past two decades, underpinned by an exceptional commitment from the City of Pasadena.
