Event Details

The first workshop was so popular, we're adding a second one for those who missed it!  Join us for a hands-on adobe brick making workshop, where we’ll craft natural, sun-dried bricks that will later be integrated into an earthen (cob) bench for seating in Arlington Garden's orchard. Learn the ancient art of adobe construction—used by civilizations for thousands of years—while connecting with sustainable building techniques. The free, intergenerational workshop will be led by Ricky Martin of SoilWise with Altadena-based artist Ching Ching Cheng as part Arlington Garden's Post Fire Series of spring programs organized in collaboration with Lynn Fang of SoilWise.

Discover how adobe bricks—made from a simple mix of clay, sand, straw, and water—offer surprising strength, natural fire resistance, and even resilience to earthquakes when properly reinforced. This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in natural building, community projects, or getting their hands dirty with purpose! Please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and some snacks to sustain you. Space is limited. Please RSVP on Eventbrite.

Special thanks to Ruckus Roots for co-presenting this session of the workshop. The event will be postponed to Saturday May 10 in case of rain.
